Uncolorful comment in my opinion. APC does not want to steal your pictures. You are the owner of the picture. We just can use the pictures submitted that is all. All contests I have participated is the same thing. That is not called stealing.

Hopefully you will submit your pictures. All camera types are welcome. You never know who can win.

Cheers,

If I may interject...

APC does not want to steal your pictures. You retail all rights to use the pictures in any other place, format, manner you see fit. APC only states that by submitting your image APC has the right to use it as they see fit. APC has always given credit to the original photographer whenever a photo has been used. In the event the photo is used in something like the banner found at the top of the page you would be contacted for your explicit permission since there is no credit listed on the image.

I am pretty sure that if you look at any other forums contest where pictures are submitted you will find the exact same type of language concerning the use of the image. If you feel that APC is stealing your image please contact the Admins pointing out the image. They will endeavor to figure out why the image was used without credit. As an Admin (retired) of this site I can tell you point blank that APC does use some of the images from contests to help flesh out features such as the Plant Finder. Sometimes the idea behind the contest is to build a database of images for projects such as the Plant Finder.

If you do not want your images used by APC then do not enter any of the contests.

APC. John N., milalic, Gnatster, et al,

I have already submitted my entries for the Invertz Contest. I do not believe that APC is trying to steal anyone's pictures. I also believe that the use of the word steal was unfortunate. Having said these things, I want to point out that words have meaning, and the words used in the contest rules ...

In addition, the following is not an accurate representation of the wording used by other forums ...

... three of which I've quoted below ...

Aquaria Central Forum
"By entering your picture into the competition, you are accepting that your picture will be used without Aquaria Central Staff asking for your permission. The photograph will NOT be used outside of Aquaria Central."

Planted Tank Forum
"By submitting a photo for your competition you agree to give the Planted Tank permission to use your image anywhere on The Planted tank."

Aquatic Photography Forum
"By posting photographs in the APF Galleries, you give APF permission to have your photographs considered for POTW, and to display your photo on APF Portal and in the APF POTW Gallery. You still retain all rights to your phtographs, and we promise not to use them for ANY OTHER purposes. Nor will they be altered by us in ANY way."

Again, let me say I don't think anyone is trying to steal anything, but I do think that the wording used in the contest rules needs to be changed for everyone's peace of mind.

Thanks for reading this and good luck to all who enter,

Keep Smilin'
John

Just a reminder, the last day for photos is in about two weeks, November 11.

Right now it's anyone's game to win the alotment of invert prizes. You don't need a speciality camera to win it. What you don't believe me? Check out this thread: Point and Shoot Cameras are still good. Be like Riba, and get yourself planted in front of the tank with a camera. I hear waving an algae wafer helps get them excited for the photoshoot. Now what are you waiting for!
