Maybe that just speaks to how versatile some of these plants are...

It really is interesting to see how varied people's approaches can be. It's hard to fault a persons ideas or techniques if they produce the desired results for them. The real issue is usually that we're not comparing apples to apples. There are so many variables in the hobby that it's almost impossible to do this accurately. TexGal is right. Like coyotes and elephants, many of our plants will grow and thrive under a wide variety of conditions. In the wild they have to.

IME, most issues arise from either too much light or too little light. Sadly, this is the single parameter that is hardest to accurately quantify in our setups. Too much light tends to be the worst problem because it demands very precise and consistent fertilizing strategies. Honestly, some of my favorite tanks are with reasonably easy species in low-tech type setups. They're just so stable.

My biggest issue with some of what TFH has published in the past is that their ideas have been presented as the gospel truth, without proof of concept. Not every hammer will work with every nail. It's good to get some exposure in an international magazine though, n'est-ce pas? As long as there is a place for honest and thought-provoking debate (like forums) we'll continue to progress in our understanding of the hobby.

Of course. Of course.

I cannot find the past issues in which the articles or the Q&A answers that my frustrations are from but it was more than just "what works for some does not always work for others" kind of thing. It was more like the perpetuation of planted tank myths. Something along the lines of phosphates cause algae so use a liquid fert that does not have them, or something about how one should use a kH/pH chart to determine your CO2 levels.

I am thrilled to see knowledgeable people from here donating their experience, time and photos to this magazine.

What I have found so interesting in reading my subscription to this magazine (and one other) is that the 'experts' and the editor are broad enough to realize that the hobby is 'hobbyist' driven and some of the most exciting new ventures have been pioneered by DIY hobbyists that have challenged preconceived ideas.

At times TFH have asked for feedback from hobbyists about what has worked for them.

It is amazing to see what some hobbyists have done. Especially here at APC.

Yup, never miss an issue...although it's usually a month late by the time I see it. Still, can't complain

If you have a print subscription you can look at the electronic version from TFH's site about three weeks before it goes out in print.

Which is my quandry... I have considered obtaining a subscription, but since I know that I could read the issue online before it even reached my mailbox, I would effectively render the print copy redundant.
