I had quite the unusual arrangement befor my wife and I moved to the current residence. We lived in an attic appartment that was less than 500 square feet liveing area. We had 5 fishtanks; a 10 in the bedroom, the 20 at the top of the stairs in the sitting/tv area, a 5 hex on the counter in the kitchen, a 5 eclipse style on the kitchen/dineing table and the 55 in the liveing room of a friends house. She did take care of it some, but about half the time I did the maintenance on the 55.
Now here in a house, the 55 is in the bedroom, 75(still empty dry tank) in on the wall where the original fire place used to be between the large liveing/dineing areas, 10 in the dineing area, and a 20 high and 20 long(dry not set up) sitting in the liveing room. Oh forgot the 50 sitting empty in the other bedroom.
I currently have more glass boxes than I have equipment to set up properly, but I'm working on that slowly. I'll have the stand for the 75 done this week.

Wow, I love all the replies! And Dataguru - a diagram even....... yep, FABULOUSLY geeky, *three cheers for geeks*!
Erin, hello to a fellow soil-girl!
Wow, that's amazing that someone said they WANTED the biowheel in their bedroom. I couldn't sleep with that, even if it is a "pleasant" noise, LOL!
I've got most of my tanks (a 20 H, 15, 3x 10's and a 5.5 gal) in the dining-room-turned-aquatic-nook. Seeing as I didn't have any dining furniture anyhow, it was a natural fit! I think my boyfriend would refuse to visit if I put a tank in the kitchen, LOL! He's very suspicious of my houseplants (and their "dirt") in the kitchen, and still gives disparaging looks to my african violets because they reside on top of the microwave (Hey - the lighting is perfect there, its just unfortunate that its the only place the micro would fit, otherwise I could have put larger plants there, *grin*).
My largest tank (small by some standards, a 30 gal) is in the living room, ensconced in its "pride of place". I'm hoping to set up something large in the dining nook, which is connected to the living room by a half wall.
My upstairs has 2 rooms - bedroom is not an option, and the office gets blazing hot in the summer.
I AM considering putting a 5.5 gal in the downstairs half bath - I'm going to have some electrical work done, and I'll have my electrician put in an outlet so I can set that tank up. yipee!
Whew - folks really pack their tanks into every nook and cranny, eh?
So I guess among the "planted", common areas are more common. And John P., you need to leave articles laying around in conspicuous places touting the health benefits of aquarium watching. Lower blood pressure, reduced stress, etc. - your tank (or another one *wink*) needs to come in from the garage!
I like the "man cave" stories, LOL! Hmmmm..... Dogs like Trucks. Men like ...... eh, let's not go there after all!
I think the aquarium hobby has hidden costs. I've been fantasizing about putting a large sink and faucet in my little basement. To facillitate laundry, you ask? No. To help with cleaning chores? No. ...... To facillitate AQUARIUM setup!! Yesssss...........
Does anyone remember those kitch toilets with the fish tank backs?
*shaking head*
Ah, well.
-Jane

There's two new tanks since that diagram was made and a new sump for the goldie tank. Plus some moving around of fish. :lol and some new fish. the 55 by the fireplace is now a cichlid tank.
When I'm at the computer, everywhere I look there's a tank. I like that. I wish they could all be where I could see them easily... otherwise it's kind of a waste.

A 20 gal (will be expanded some day) is in the dining area; 10 gal in my son's room - both soil-based planted (modified) low-tech. Next will be a 39 gal paludarium in my son's room, an nano at work, and then there's that empty 15 gal tall without a plan . . .
Good to see you over here, Jane of Upton.

I agree, when I sit at my drafting table- the proverbial "drawing board" as it were- I can see every one of my tanks, even the one in the bedroom, which is just visible through the door. This is a huge plus because I spend a ton of time at this drafting table and need a good view to keep me going. Of course, I live by myself in a fairly tiny three room apartment so I suppose this setup is not a too terribly impressive feat.
So, I've got 6 tanks ranging from 2 gal - 70 gal set up in two rooms (none in the bathroom by the way)... actually, I think there are more tanks right now than there are places to sit!

hah this is a great thread! 'The Man Cave'... brilliant.
I have 2 tanks a 50 and a 10. Both are in my 'den/office'. I am planning a 5g nano tank for my desk at work.
John P. that's to bad you have to keep it in the garage! Maybe if you refer to it as your 'garden' she might let you bring it indoors? Good luck

In the basement (finished)... it's a 125 gallon tank, no one wants that crashing through their floors.
