Very interesting theory! I guess I fall into the "common area low-tech female hobbyist" category, though I am moving towards being more high-tech as I learn more.
My 30 and 55 are both in the living room. The girlfriend likes the goldfish tank (55) better. Obviously I like my planted tank better!! But since I do all the maintenance on both, the 30gal gets the more prominent placement

I also have two 2.5 betta tanks in the office. If I had my way (and enough outlets and more money to pay the electric bill), I'd have a planted tank in every single room and the goldfish would be relegated to a smaller tank so I could steal that one for plants!
On a related note, does anyone have any information about why this is such a male-dominated hobby? Is it the chemistry involved? The DIY plumbing and lighting? I know there are plenty of women out there who are capable of doing this stuff as well as any guy, I just mean I wonder if it discourages some from even getting started.
