For me plants were more expensive. Luckily I got my light and filter wholesale through my job. Traded some previous plants for credit towards my flourite. Driftwood is hard to find-good pieces anyway-found a few small awesome pieces at petco of all places for pretty cheap~$10 or so. Plants cost alot because I needed alot to start with. 10 pots hairgrass, 3 anubias nana, and one bunch ammania gracilis probably about $60 altogether. No fish execpt an oto-he was like $1.50. This is a 10g btw.

Is this for one main tank? or any other total? Because I have around 40 tanks. I think the plants for the most expensive for me. I guess because I go after mostly rare plants.

Interesting question. I'm heavily into plant bartering so if we include shipping costs (?) for the plants going out, probably close to $100. Substrate, rocks and driftwood - $100. Fish are probably the most expensive portion...lots of SA cichlids (Angels, Rams), etc., close to $100.

I would probably have spent way more $$$ if I purchased plants retail.

I would have to say that even with buying some fish through club auctions (discus, angels, weird-looking platies) I give into temptation sometimes and end up coming home with a dozen congo tetras or hillstream loaches from an LFS.

And then there's the proximity of Aqua Forest and Albany Aquarium...... my self-control's undoing....
