I ocassionaly throw the stuff away, I hate it, it gets tangled in my frogbit and messes everything up. I dont have very much of it because when I see it I try to destroy it, kind of like unwanted sanils. I was at an auction the other day and to my surprise they were auctioning off 4 pounds of duckweed, I had to laugh because it went for $1 dollar. Bert H. why dont you like utricularia? I was thinking about getting some, is that the carnivorous foreground plant? I would like to know why you dont like it, it might stop me from getting some.

Utricularia gibba is the hard one to get rid of not the foreground one. Both carnivores but the gibba is stringy and gets tangled in everything. Equivalent to an algae IMO.

Well I voted I love it but I am biased because I love it in my paludaium/frog tank. Just because it's a marsh tank, so it looks natural . But I wouldn't want it in my fish aquariums So if it got into my aquarium I would probably hate it.

Well, I have to revive this old thread because I have a serious love/hate relationship with duckweed! It hitchhiked on some plants I bought somewhere, and since then four out of five of my tanks have been completely covered in it. My goldfish eat it (which is why their tank doesn't have any), but the other three tanks produce enough duckweed in one day to feed the goldies for a week! I don't mind it in the 2.5 gallons since my bettas like to hide under it, but in my 30gal it's an eyesore and blocks a lot of the light.

The worst part is that it gets stuck to my arm. I recently had a clogged drain in my bathroom sink and when I plunged it, guess what came up? Tons and tons of duckweed! Ughhhh.

I'm moving this weekend and am trying to find a way to get rid of all of it by rinsing each individual plant, but I know that's not going to work and it will always come back. Sigh.

i voted i loved it but actually it did do a good job removing nutrients from my well water but it started getting caught in the filter and all over my arms...so it was fairly messy which i did not like at all. i ended up composting it regularly. i did put some in my 90gal mbuna setup and overnight it disappeared. so they ate it gladly. i know that once it was gone, i have had algae problems since.

I love it! I keep in my tanks to soak up extra nutrients and it makes a nice cover for fish & fry to hide under.

Duckweed is a weed and unless you have fish that'll eat it, has no purpose. I much prefer using salvinia as a algae killer because it's so easy to scoop out.

Fortunately, I've never had a problem with Duckweed.
