Okay, I want to change my vote from indifference to loathing now. Duckweed has gotten a foothold in 4 out of 6 tanks and I HATE how it gets caught on my fingers and arms when I'm doing maintenance and scooping out excess floaters. Duckweed by far multiplies faster than any other floater and will completely cover a tank in days. I have floaters that I want to keep so I can't just net it out without taking all the other floaters out too and rinsing them off to try and get rid of the duckweed. In one tank with an HOB filter I ended up with HUNDREDS of duckweed blown down into my Lobelia cardinalis where they got stuck under the leaves until I brushed my hand through it and they all came floating back up so they could repeat the process. Definitely NOT the look I was going for. I finally managed to eradicate it in that tank by changing the location of the filter so it got sucked up and caught in the filter floss (yay!). Summation: Duckweed is horrid.

Duck tales!
Duck weed!

Personally I like it, it takes up a lot of nitrate and other potentially harmful nutrients from the water column really fast. It also provides shading and cover so fish feel safe. Pretty easy to just net a whole bunch and throw it in the garbage or lawn. I would understand why some people would hate it though, since it grows so fast and uncontrollably.

The stuff grows perfectly in my tanks. When it's time for a weekly water change I just scoop most of it out. It never covers more than 10% of the water surface so it doesn't really have time to get out of control.

Ive thrown out at least 10lbs of the stuff from my 150 and my pond, it can take over if not managed.
I like it.
