HC.....Smaller leaves, Prettier, grows more lush looking

Glosso....Lareger leaves, Ugly, Piles on top of itself and just looks foul.

I much prefer the look of HC, but it's a very frustrating plant to keep rooted if you have any larger fish or any that like to scavenge around the bottom.

i always thought glosso was the nicer one......H.C. looks like a leach, the way it grows, and H.C. has firm leaves right?? And glosso has light, thin leaves??

i like well maintained glosso verses the usual half planted hc you see. glosso fills in quicker if your on a tight budget and can't affort a lot of hc. well maintaned healthy filled in hc beats glosso all day, but i rarely see it.

I voted other because I like to be different. I prefer the grassy foreground plants such as Ranalisma rostrata and Echinodorus tenellus 'micro'.

I think that the two plants are different things, used for different purposes, and that a good artist will think critically about different choices and choose based on motif and thought instead of knee-jerk "I like this, I don't like that."

I like them both. I keep them both. I think glosso is harder to keep. It grows tall if you leave it without light even for a short time. It is easy to grow though. HC is harder for me to grow but thats mostly because of my lack of patience.

To sum it all up i like them in different tanks. I like glosso in bigger tanks, that way the larger leaf size really doesnt matter. I also like glosso because when you grow it in right its like a tight plate armor or scales over the entire substrate. THis is difficult to accomplish but one of my favorite looks.

HC has a fluffier feel. It adds kind of textured look, it ussually forms little hills and grows into a sort of bush. It also takes longer to grow. And if you have a lot of space to fill glosso will fill it faster no matter how much HC you put in there.

I also like the other. I did a whole grassy tank just tenellus and dwarf hairgrass also a nice effect but isn't quite as short and more effective when its not right up against the glass.

If everyone liked the same thing and used the same thing it would be a pretty boring world.

true dat slickwillislim, that would be a boring world! haha.

well im going with glosso, i don't really want all those hills and texture, etc. and my patience is really bad too. i have a lot of space to fill also....i might put one clump of H.C. in the back of the glosso.

im sorry to say this man but whenever i talk to you steven chong, you sound like your all pissed and think im retarded. i don't know if that's true but that's kinda the impression i'm getting.

Glosso is a good beginner plant for your typical foreground. It is a "patience later" plant - meaning it will grown in relatively quickly and I think you will be satisfied initially as it spreads around. Once it is established then patience becomes a requirement. I liken it to hygro. It is really neat to see it growing, but maintenance will take its toll on your patience in the long run.

I personally prefer clover to glosso for what it sounds like you are trying to accomplish, but my second choice would be HC. All of that said, I think it is important to experiment and become familiar with your different options. If glosso has your interest, I think you should run with it. Make sure you have a finer-grain, nutrient rich substrate and good lighting and you should be set.
