3Mbps, though I think my computer can't quite keep up with a constant stream at that speed.

Why do people group DSL and Cable together? There is a huge difference in them, not just speed but connectivity, ease of use, wiring, and routing.

I didn't know there was such a disparity.

Huge disparity. For DSL downstream is faster (standard) the uploading. You have to usually pay much more for a faster upload connection. You do get a static IP (at least you used to) vs a dynamic IP from a cable source. Many cable companies won't allow you to purchase a static IP anymore unless you are a buisness. IMO as an IT admis setting up servers and networks with internet access (Microsoft SBS for exchange server and whatnot) cable is faster but not really an option without a static IP. There are more differences but some are not noticeable to the average user.

Verizon has that new FiOS service

* 5 Mbps/2 Mbps for $34.95 a month as part of a calling package, or $39.95 a month stand-alone
* 15 Mbps/2 Mbps for $44.95 a month as part of a calling package, or $49.95 a month stand-alone
* 30 Mbps/5 Mbps at $199.95

They keep telling me that it's coming near me soon too. Thats a lot less expensive then cable in my area, and a lot faster too. They also will give you astatic IP and you are allowed to hang servers on it.
