Default My new ADA style cabinet finished.

well after a lot of calculating, hard work and patience i have managed to finish my new aquarium cabinet. it is a clone of the ADA Cube Garden 90x45 cm. the top, bottom, ack, side and middle panels are 25mm thick MDF. the doors and thin panel above them are 15mm MDF. to join everythink together i used 6mm thick countersunk screws and special wood glue so that is pretty solid. for the doors used 170 degree special hinges.

filled the grooves with wood filler, sanded it and then primed everything with two coats of wood primer, sanded it again to make the surfaces smooth and then used medium grey high shine spray paint (several coats). the result you can see in the pictures. the only flaw i have noticed so far is that the gap between the top panel and the doors is larger than the gap between the doors. might get another MDF piece a few mm bigger and replace the existing one in order to make the gaps equal. need to varnish the inside as well.

Looks good to me. You can adjust those hinges to raise the doors up to close up that gap. Or, if you are out of adjustment range, remount the screwed on halves of the hinges about 3/16 inch higher, to gain more room for adjusting to fit. That is much easier than replacing parts of the cabinet.

Looks great!

I wish my wife would let me get an ADA tank .

She doesn't even like me having my little All Glass 20 gallon.

Christmas and Anniversary are coming up. Need to be extra nice and buy expensive gifts . Then I might be able to talk her into it.

But hey, your stand looks great. A very nice job.

thank you guys.

everything included it cost me £80 British pounds.

here is a picture of the inside (it is not finished yet). i chose to use a full middle panel rather then the thin slip at the front that ADA uses. i am thinking of getting some clear varnish and varnishing both the inside and the outside to give it more shine. will have to drill the holes on the sides for the pump's hoses too.

No feet on the ADA cabinet stands-- but the metal Garden Stand has them.

Nice work on the stand!

Good Job!

i am getting a bit confused because some people are saying to me that the cabinet with the tank on it might be unstable without any feet or perimeter border underneath!!

just to make sure, in the ADA cabinet stands does the whole surface of the bottom panel touch the floor?

When you get the stand where you want it in the room, put a little water in it & shim it as necessary to get the tank level. You can get the shims from Home Depot or Lowes in the door area. You should be fine.

On another note, you probably should have put this thread in the DIY section rather than the sponsors section.
