Thanks for everyone's input, despite being sidetracked on the whole bleach vs. boiling. There definitely is some sort of treatment done by ADA. How else would boiled wood turn water purple and tar covered?

I think the most plausible idea presented is the sap being burned or some kind of intentional treatment by ADA.

I posted in this section hoping that someone from ADG would chime in, hopefully someone with real knowledge will share. However ADA hides their secrets well...

If we find out what treatment or process ADA wood goes through, I wonder if we can apply the same method to other woods? I would personally love to have a more readily available source of good hardscape materials.

I guess it all depends on which state/city you live in. In Houston, we have plenty of resources and sources to go to. Rock yards and savvy asian antique shops being two examples Oh yeah, we also have City Pets(carries ADA product) and ADG(didn't mean to gloat, hehe:P).
