Default ADA announcements/next Japan order

Just wanted to let everyone know that the next ADA order will be placed with Japan on April 14th. Now that we have a shipment under our belts, our freight forwarder has assured us that the Customs clearance and ultimate delivery of the goods to ADG should be much easier and faster. This date had been set partly based on Oliver Knott's visit- I wanted to give attendees and others a chance to place orders also- working on the assumption that all the goings-on while he is here might be infectious and more may find themselves inspired to explore ADA product.

While I do not have time right this minute to give a detailed report of the benefits I have seen from Green Gain and ECA usage, let me say quickly that these 2 products are remarkable and definitely have some unique properties. Growth rates following major trimmings are nothing short of amazing. My Rotala nanjean especially has easily doubled in size- and that is following the 6th complete trimming- a point at which I ususally experience a slower grow-back rate and perhaps a few weaker stems in the bunch. I also added some Hygrophila stems that came from an old tank- they were doing ok after being added to the ADA substrate- but upon the addition of Green Gain and ECA (2 water changes) it easily tripled its size and perked up most noticeably.
Also- answering inquiries about dosing- Green Gain is 1 drop per 10 liters of water following water changes/once per week. After trimming or transplant (times of stress for the plants) increase dose to 2-3 drops per 10 liters.
ECA is 2 drops per 5 liters once a week. If you have some color loss or whitening, increase to 2 drops per 5 liters every day until the condition improves.
So you can see it is pretty low dose- only weekly- so that 50ml bottle can potentially last a good while.
It is easier for me to answer specific questions rather than go on and on here - so please do not hesitate to ask! I will keep a close eye here.
Also, we are doing a new layout on a gallery tank- 225gallon open-top/trimless Oceanic custom. It will fuse American and ADA product. I'll post pics over the weekend.

It is becoming clearer and clearer to me how Amano pulls-off the layouts that he does. This is getting exciting.

I am looking to give the complete line a try (substrate and ferts). For a 50 gallon tank (36" x 18" x 18"), I have 2 x 6500k 96 watt CF with substrate heaters and compressed CO2. How will the amount of lights I currently run the uptake of said nutrients and should I do anything in terms of staggering my lights on and off times.

The amount of light looks good for your size tank- Nutrient uptake should not be much of an issue (as far as not providing enough for the plants). While the intensity of your light set-up will result in rapid nutrient uptake, you are in-line with wattages present on many "Amano" layouts. As well, all the main ADA liquids (Step series/Brighty "Special" series) are all daily dose oriented. So while you may need to increase the amount according to the needs of your plants (obtained from good daily observation)- you will certainly have the necessary nutrients on hand in the ADA liquids. I would highly recommend the Green Gain and ECA- especially if you are doing a lot of stemmed plants and trim frquently to obtain shape/composition.

Thanks for the update

What is your opinion from first hand experience with Phyton-Git or Green Bactor

Thanks Jeff.

Can you list every ADA product that you use to set-up a tank? Do you use Penac W or P?

Gomer,
Phyton-Git - I have been using it in the "preventative" dose, so I can say, nor would I expect to see a huge difference due to it alone.

Green Bacter is the only one of the "sub-supplements" that I have not tried. I plan to bring it in on the next shipment. It is somewhat geared toward a new layout. GREEN GAIN on the other hand is phenomenal. Everything has dramatically increased in size, girth, and overall lushness. The growth rate after a major trimming was greatly accelerated- too much so in fact. I am now faced with having to do a nother major trim this week- just before Oliver's visit! I thought I had timed it perfectly but I ended up off by exactly 1 week. Over the weekend the stem plants were at the perfect height/form. I don't want to risk them becoming too over grown because if I trim them now, I (with the help of Green Gain) should make it just under-the-wire for ADA entry. I have been waiting also to really trim and sculpt the hairgrass for the shot for ADA entry. It has really become thick and tall. I wanted to do that just before everyone arrives this week, but will have to wait a couple of weeks now. I tried hard to get this tank just right for this weekend, but just missed it- but all (fortunately) due to exceptional and luxurious growth- as opposed to the opposite situation where you are having problems and can't get the tank right for visitors and/or photos. It's all timing on this one. Still learning- that's for sure. It should still be a pretty cool system for folks to check out, though. We'll be seeing plenty of other sites to be sure!

Rolo,
The only items we will stock here initially will be substrate oriented. I really hope to get all of it (whole-line) in-stock soon. I need retail support to really do that, though. TALK TO YOUR LOCAL SHOPS ABOUT CARRYING IT! Have them call me! Offer to do a display in the store for them to show them how to have an awesome planted tank to help see more plants/products and generate interest. The grass-roots style can go a long way here.

David,
It will depend on the tank. I have some with existing equipment that just want ADA substrate, some substrate and Lily Pipes. I am getting more into the filter medias as they seem VERY unique and function-specific. Adding PALM NET and BIO-RIO to the 90cm tank here seemed connected to radical increased growth rate and more lush appearance.
I do use the PENAC W. I add it to the water column at night every 2 weeks or so. I add it at night because it clouds the water severely- you can barely see in the tank. By morning... all I can say is the clarity- the "crispness" of the tank is remarkable. It just has a look to it- like fresh spring water or something. It is difficult to put into words- the tank just looks teeming and "right". I have not posted on this because I don't want to open the whole PENAC can of worms- but I think there is something to it. You know when you look at your tank- I mean really study it- you know when it is really "on". A good week after the Penac W application, the tank has that special look/feel. Luis tried it too. His results were the same. I just don't have the hard science data to back it so I know I might as well be talking about little space-man that come and sprinkle sparkly star-dust in the tank. I am not up for that argument right now, so I submit to you only that I will continue to use it on a regular basis.

Jeff,

So you are using the PENAC W by sprinkling it evenly over POWER SAND and then again every two weeks to the water column. Do you dissolve it first or just throw it in?

I have been just throwing it in but I think dissolving it first in a cup of aquarium water is a good idea.
