Default Lights on the Blink

I have the "Freshwater Aqualight Deluxe Series - Double Linear Strip" by Oceanic Systems (or Coralife). It has two separate sets of lights in it (two 65 watt bulbs each for a total of 4). Lately the rear lights have been misbehaving, running sometimes but refusing to turn on other times. Sometimes it will run for a bit and then just turn off. I just replaced the bulbs and the problem continues. The front set of lights run just as they should.

Has anyone run into this before? Any idea what the problem could be and what I could do to fix it? I don't fancy paying $300 for a new light...

Was there any strain on the back cords? I imagine you checked to see if the plug is fully plugged in. If there has been strain, then the wires could be loose and not making a good connection. This would mean you have to open the hood and check all the wires. There are other things that could be wrong, but always start with the simple stuff first.
Also if you haven't already, plug it into a different outlet.

try replacing the ballast (don't buy one online you can get one at home depot for much cheaper) sometimes old ballasts will do what you describe to a light fixture
