Default My Riccia Garden

I have signed up as a member since last year, and had been following the article and discussion. The discussion and articles here help a lot, in my quest of setting a planted tank.

Here i am, sharing with you guys my tank pictures taken late last year. I hope i won't embarass myself, showing the pictures to you all . The tank was set up last July from bare basics. After months of wet fingers and aching backs, i finally managed to get something out of this tank.

Tank parameters:
dimension - 90cm(l) x 45(w) cm x 50 cm(ht)
lighting - 3 wpg (10 hours)
CO2 - 3bps pressurized CO2
pH - 6.6~6.8

Amazing tank...I like the contrast between the Discus and plants. That use of riccia is amazing!

Cheers,
Pedro

Amazing tank! Absoluely whimsical! I love it, it is very unique, and very pretty. You are able to get a lot of texture and a lot of character from very few species of plants, giving the tank a very well put together appearance.

The above is the first serious effort for me in setting up a well sustained aquascape. As i couldn't wait to try out other plants and setup, the tank was replaced by another scape at the turn of the year. I am now trying hard to maintain the other new layout.

How often did you have to trim the riccia? I love to the look, I hope I could turn something like that out eventually.

Well, i spent about an hour a week to trim the riccia.

Let me share a tip with you all about controlling the growth of riccia : plant/grow/tie a small amount of riccia to a medium portion of moss, and let them grow. The riccia will grow to a nice shape like mine naturally. The reason for planting riccia together with moss, is that moss will grab riccia as they grow. The moss will intertwine with the riccia as both grow at a healthy speed.

Riccia will soon outgrows the moss, but it will have a sound rooting with moss at the base so that it won't grow out of control or floating away.

Well, that sounds like a really neat trick - I'm about to give Riccia a try myself - thanks for the tip!
