Here is my new tank setup, it's a little bit short on plants at the moment, trying to decide on how to fill it out. I don't really like the anubius on the left (it's a damn algae magnet), so I'm thinking of throwing it.

My thoughts at this stage is to plant some Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia in the empty spot on the front left and maybe some Cryptocoryne beckettii ''petchii'' on the right where the internal filter is currently sitting.

I'm just waiting to see how it grows in now that my new AHS 96W has arrived

A short video showing the tank (reasonable amount of pearling is visible) is here (4Mb - 10 seconds)

The video was taken about 1 hr after I first setup the new light the other night and I was amazed at how all of the plants started pearling almost immediately.

The riccia seems to love the new light

looks good man!

just wondering how you made that ice-cream-tub-like riccia arrangement? The tank will look nice when it fills in. Keep it up.

oh, and i know about the algae-magnet anubias.. just wondering what to do about mine, myself!

so show more pictures when it matures a bit.

"that ice-cream-tub-like riccia arrangement" is a pottery plant pot upside down with a stretchy "sock" of nylon netting pulled over it.

The nylon netting is actually a nylon shower loofah bought from k-mart. The loofah is just a long tube of nylon netting bunched up and tied with a string like a pom-pom. It even comes in green When cut up it forms a perfect riccia net.

Looks great Brett. It has a very neat and tidy appearance! That is a good system you came up with for the Riccia.

Here's an update, I'm pretty happy with the way it's coming along, although I haven't gotten around to picking up any more plants as yet

It's been roughly 4 weeks and the anubias is gone, I've pruned some of the stem plant and replanted down the front to replace it.

The bronze colour is a direct result of the new 96W AHS, the colour turned from green with a hint of bronze (as you can see in the first photo) to this colour in a matter of days after the new light arrived.

Update aftera further 3 weeks, pretty happy with the way it's growing although I need some more green as I didn't realise that I was going to end up with so much bronze colour. Will get to the shop one day....

I keep forgetting to mention, this is with a substrate of plain old gravel, none of your fancy pants commercial substrates So I'm pretty happy with the results.

Thanks Russell, I've had some hairgrass pop up on it's own from a previous planting, only a few strands at this stage but I thought I'd let it grow in and see how it looks.

It's been another month, so picture update time. Tomorrow everything is getting a major haircut!
