Default Hollowed out Wood as a Planter

Tore up the old scape today and started something brand new. Had what I think is an interesing idea for the wood I chose. There is an area near the surface thats fairly flat where it was cut. I hollowed out a section about 3" deep and filled in with substrate. This sits about 1" under the water level and directly under a bulb. Planted a variety to see what may or may not work. Included from the top down are:

C. wendtii

Ranalisma rostrata

glosso

Dwarf Hairgrass

Hemianthus micranthemoides

H. callitrichoides

ADA sells various hollowed out rocks as aquatic planters. They could be useful on higher ground in a hilly aquascape.

Excellent idea for a discus tank Gnatster. It should look really cool when it grows in.

Seen that. It's been done....

Nonetheless, I hope it grows out beautifully for you. I think the Hemianthus callitrichoides was a good choice. The Cryptocoryne popping out of the water among the rolling mantle of HC should look very nice.
