Default 29 gallon project

Hello all,

My son wants a 29 gallon fish tank for Christmas this year. (He is 7.) He has even gone so far as to pull out all of my back issues of Aquarium Fish Magazine and point to fish that he would like to have in his new tank. The problem that I am having with this is that he wants cichlids. (Not the regular "rockpile" cichlids either.)
We have decided on:
(3) Haplochromis sp. "Ruby Green"
(5) Pseudotropheus Lanisticola (Shellies)
(2) Bristlenose Plecos
I have done extensive research and found that these are all compatible species and will all fit comfortably in this tank. The problem that I am having is that one species (Ruby Greens) need various "hard" plants, one species needs shells, and the other needs driftwood. Obviously I can do all these in a tank, but I am having some difficulty trying to get some options on "hard" plants and what would grow nicely together.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks-
Irish

Possibly Java fern, would make a good contrast to the anubias. these are the only plants that I now of that can hold up to more aggressive fish.
