Default Hau Coast Revisited

You may remember my aquascape from the Fall, Hau Coast. Recently, I've gotten a LOT better at editing photos though, and recently found an untouched folder of photos from this aquascape. So, I'm re-visiting it.

I'm pretty happy, because I feel that this photo is (a lot better) much more able to communicate the feeling of that aquascape.

I think it's great how you were able to get the ripple effect eminating from where the plants break the water's surface. It's a nice touch and adds a bit more to the reality of the scene.

BTW, what are the editing differences between this picture and the previous versions?

Donald-- LOTS of things I don't know how to do yet.

Troy--

Now:

nma . . . the other one is not so bad. But I think the color balance and sharpness of the newer photo is better. This one also looks better at a larger scale (that is the full resolution versions).

Background for the first version is also too over-exposed.

I like the old one, it just looks more natural.

Very nice photo. I find that my pictures usually end up much yellower than it really is. I will try and use some of the methods you mentioned in your photoshop tutorial. Only problem is I only have elements, and I am not sure I can do all that stuff...

I think drawing in the top rim is a little excess, of course I only noticed this because you mentioned it elsewhere... I think it looks off to me because it seems like you should be seeing part of rim of the tank sides in the white region. This is of course nitpicking since the rest of the picture is so cool.

I think filling the tank a little more and using the actual rim with what ever colors naturally show up instead of whiting it out would be much stronger. Of course you can't do that because you already tore down the tank so I guess this advice is pointless.

I really like how the ripples eminate from the top of the Rotala green as well, looks natural.

Keep up the good work.
