I was thinking. I'd like to go to the New York botanical garden and the aquarium in the near future. Would anyone else be up for a day in NYC? I prefer weekends and was thinking around march 5th.

compared to the aquarium at mystic seaport CT, the one down in brooklyn is a dump, so don't bother. the bronx zoo and botanical gardens are close to each other, and combined will make for a great daytrip in the Spring. let us know what Month you plan on being local and we can suggest other natural and seasonal activities for you to consider.

If you're going to NYC, why not head a little bit farther and visit some of the aquatic importers on Long Island? I've heard great things about Frank's Aquarium, for instance... it's not a terrible drive as long as I'm not the one making it :P

That said, the 5th is the first day of my spring break, so I'm game for a day trip. Not a huge fan of the city, but why not?

Hmm... sad to hear that about the aquarium.

I went up to the botanical gardens a few weeks ago and it was a very nice change from all the snow we got. It was almost like a vacation. I wouldn't mind going back or checking out a different one since I hear there are a few up there.

I'm not a huge fan of the city either, I've always found the lack of plants and the overwhelming number of people unnatural, though its fine for a day or so.

Mainly I'd like to get the heck out of CT and do some fun things.

Maybe check out the botanical gardens in the early afternoon and then see a museum, or go to a bar or two. Any ideas/interest?

If you like outdoors stuff and come in the Spring/Summer you might enjoy Governer's Island,
which just opened a few years ago to tourists, and gives you a nice boat ride and view of
Ellis & Liberty Islands which you can also go visit as well. accross the river in NJ is the newly
remodeled Liberty State Science Center. We now have a brand new Yankee Baseball Stadium.
Going to Coney Island and their Minor League team stadium is fun. Central Park is great too.
We now have a high-line park, which is a raised subway line that was converted to a Park,

Okay, I was just reminded of something and have an even better idea than going to the city:

The Norwalk Aquarium Society is having an auction on March 6th - same place as the one last October. I'm totally going with intent to buy and sell stuff. Maybe they'll even have some cool inverts for my collection...

Definitely better. Cheaper? I doubt it, unless you sell more than you buy :P You could bring some of those juvie crescent goodeids (the ones I snatched from you), though; they should fetch a fair price.
