Hi everyone!

Seeing as there was a big thunderstorm that rained out our scheduled May 21 meeting, we're now planning a meting for Saturday, Jun. 4th at 2pm. We'll be meeting in George Bennett Park on Roxbury Rd. (Rte. 67) in Southbury, where we shall hopefully be able to get our grubby paws on some neat hardscape items (the sycamore roots there are to die for) and maybe even some crayfish! Be sure to bring nets, buckets, specimen containers, bags, etc.

Afterwards, if we don't get too preoccupied with the hardscape, we'll be stopping by nearby Transylvania Pond to see if there are any neat native plants, or, barring that, have a nice walk around the waterfront.

Since Michael will still busy globe trotting and looking at wild plants in jungles and such (we are, of course, all insanely jealous!) I'll be running this show.

Also, feel free to bring snacks and such if you want to picnic by the Pomperaug River in Bennett Park.

Aww man... I wish my flight was a few days later so I could come!

Last year's wood/plant collection field trip was great. Maybe someone can bring a grill and cook some food up.

I'm sorry folks, but I had an emergency pop up. I won't be able to attend. I know that there is supposed to be another meeting next month, so I'll try to make it to that meeting. I'd like to make a suggestion though and try to make the next meeting closer to the Middletown area. There are a number of members who can't drive that far, so it might draw more people if you guys make it in the middle somewhere.... Just a thought.

Anyway, sorry I'll be missing this meeting. It sounds like a ton of fun!

Meeting wound up consisting of myself and my sister LOL. That said, we had a blast, and came back with all kinds of neat things - I'll post pictures later - but y'all missed out!

We brought home a ton of cool driftwood, some neat rocks, new plants for my pond/tubs, and found a lifetime supply of Cabomba (not sure which species, but probably the "invasive" C. caroliniana - I stand by my theory that a native plant should not be considered invasive and banned). Also saw a couple of crayfish, some neat little salamanders in a pool of crystal clear water with rust-red substrate, and a ton of nesting bluegills. With adorable little baby bluegills and everything.

Sorry I didn't catch up, I went to Tonny's after work around 3pm and it's about 4ish before I realized what time it is :/ Cool that you find some nice stuffs on your collecting trip with your sister... I'm actually on the look for some nice scaping stones for iwagumi setup... If you don't mind, can you send me the addess where you found the stones? I'll prolly go by myself on Tuesday to find/collect a few

Michael, your brown-ish rocks in your tank looks interesting as well, do you remember where you found them???

The place with the rocks is George Bennett Park on Roxbury Rd. (CT-67) in Southbury, CT - the banks of the river there (the Pomperaug) are literally littered with neat hardscape materials.
