Hey guys!

I'm going to build the DIY reactor (unless I found out I won the naming contest !!), and I wanted to ask if you preferred to use PVC pipe, or the tube-part of a gravel siphon for the part of the reactor that has the bio-balls?

Thank you!

I don't know if there's a real preference. A lot of it is a matter of what you have lying around, and how much time/money you're willing to put into it. I used PVC mainly because I like goofing around in Home Depot/Lowes and this gave me another excuse. But it would have been a lot cheaper if I had scavenged through the garage and cobbled something together...but where's the fun in that?

The gravel filters are best used internally. THe PVC is preferred for external reactors where the system is pressurized. Not sure where it is now, but I have a DIY thread on building an external reactor. If not go to www.hoftiezer.net and follow the links to the aquarium pages. THere's a DIY section there.
