Do places like home depot have vho lights in stock? Since they have a higher wattage I can spend almost the same amount of money for double the output.
Does anyone here use vho lights?

My goal is a sea of green.

Short answer is No. Why would they carry them? They really have no broad commercial application. VHO lights are pretty much a specialty item. And don't forget you need a VHO ballast for them also. They won't work on your standard ballast.

Rex is right, you will not find them in most stores. They do require a special ballast. Ice cap is one of the best. It's also difficult to find VHOs in a kelvin less than 10,000, which is one reason I replaced my VHOs with power compacts. VHOs make the most sense in very large aquariums
