Default A question to anyone using DIY Yeast CO2

Just currious because I have started to notice that the yeast produces much more CO2 for a longer period of time from a freshly opened package as opposed to one that has been opened before.

How do you store your unused yeast????

The packages I buy I know are like $1 or so for 3 but I feel bad only using a 1/2 of a package and wanting to throw out the rest because I know it wont last just folded up and stored in a zip lock. Does anyone use an air-tight canister or some other method of storage for yeast??

i don't use DIY CO2, but i think others put their opened packs of yeast into zip lock bags and toss into the freezer. it should be fine when you need to use again, just let it defrost and warm up to room temperature first.

but then again, i maybe totally off, so please let someone who knows for sure to comment. because i agree it is a waste having to toss out any unused portions.

I store unopened packages in the refridgerator section, folded and taped up. I always end up throwing the last quarter of the package away just to be sure that the stuff is fresh.

I think storing it in the freezer in an air tight bin might preserve it.

Never heard of freezing it. I keep it in the fridge in a ziplock bag. I throw away any package that has been open for a month.

I also throw away the opened packages and I cut out the sides of the yeast and only use the center part of the package.
