I have a 1.5g classic old school tank. Chromed metal frame and black tar sealant. I have cleaned this tank up, and resealed the inner seams with black silicone.

My plans: low tech – no heater, no filter, no chemicals, natural lighting.

This tank has been sitting for the last 24h with 1” of fluorite gravel on the bottom and a piece of driftwood. I would like to attach some Nanas to this driftwood, or some Java Fern.

But what else can I add in the way of flora or fauna?

Looking for advice on still water tanks.
David.

Just give it a go with your idea. The end result always looks different than when we first envisioned it. You might like it better when it's all done.

Many choices. Other than those really light intensive ones such as R.mcrandra, red Cabomba, you really have a lot of choices.

I grow many plants in a 2-gal that has no filter, no CO2, no strong light; the only light it gets is a screw-on PC bulb. Ironically, the water is clearer than a tank without any plants. You name it, I have it; swords, moss, ferns, anacharis, hygros, ludwigias, etc... It is in fact a nice little hatchery for a number of baby Rainbows that appeared mysteriously, the largest of which I have moved to another tank and is doing great. Now there are 3 babies with varying age difference. I don't know where they came from but given the setting provided they seem to thrive
