Second, I read where you put your tanks on 10hrs of light seperated by a 4 hr siesta and decided to try it (I have a mid-tech, no sunlight but 2.8+ WPG on a 50gal with DIY CO2 and liquid ferts EI). I have to say I was skeptical at first, but after 4 weeks on this schedule I have had wonderful results. The plants are growing fabulously and my algae is nothing like it once was.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your experiences and information.

Hello Folks,

The tank is doing great. Attached is a photo of tank at 13 weeks.

Setting up new tanks like this one has made me realize how much work one must do the first 2-3 months. One must probably do water changes, glass cleaning, adding charcoal to the filter, manual algae removal, etc.

Any soil is unstable the first 2-3 months (my book, pp 130-140). Once you get through the "break-in" period, you can relax.
