Default Question regarding background

Hi Everyone,

While browsing everyone else's NPT tank, I've noticed a lack of background. Is it a general measure to allow more sunlight to enter the tank? I find tanks with a dark color background to look more organized, and I can't decide if I am going to paint the back of my to-be-set-up 10g NPT or not...

Thank you in advance!

I leave the back open because that is where the windows are, to let the sun in. I will use curtains to keep the sun out when that would be too much heat.
Most of the tanks are so dense with plants that I cannot see the back of the tank.

I have one tank that forms a room divider and it's pretty clear the openness makes some of the fish more skittish. I think this is also true of the 55 gal in front of the window. When it was young and going through it's algae phase, I blocked off the back with cardboard to regulate the sunshine. Now that algae is gone and so is the cardboard, the corys swim and hide like crazy every time they see me.

Anyway, if you think this is true of your tanks, it's another argument for covering the back. I like the idea of doing it with something easily removable.

Yes...that's in fact what I wanted to do...besides my boyfriend, without asking me, painted the back of my 10g this morning!!

According to him..."you've painted everyone of your tank! i just wanted to surprise you..." haha.

I guess that's going to be it! Unless I decide to scrape it off before I start the NPT.

Anyhow, thank you for all of your input! I'd hate to see my fish feeling skittish...I've never actually run a tank without a background.
