Default Red Sea regulator and solenoid question

Does anyone have some experience with attaching the Red Sea solenoid to the Red Sea regulator? The instructions for the solenoid say to "Using a gripping tool remove the hose barb from the Regulator..." My concern is that if it does come out "anticlockwise" as the instructions say by using a gripping tool there is no going back and using that hose barb again because of the thread damage. I doubt I would be able to find one to buy. It sounds like I need to attach this solenoid to the regulator from the post I read about exploding CO2 tubing. Can anyone help assure me I am going down the right path on this?
