Default Test Kit for Planted Tanks

What specific test kits should someone have on hand for a planted tank?

Hi OrangeCones,

I use the API Freshwater Master Test Kit and the API KH/GH test kit. I have the Seachem Multitest Iron Test kit but seldom use it.

Thanks Seattle_Aquarist. I use the API Master test kit now, it measures Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and low/high pH. Other than the KH and GH test kit, should I get anything else? I've read that the iron test kits are not very accurate unless you spend a lot of money on one.

Hi OrangeCones,

I've thought about phosphate and potassium test kits but haven't tried them. I spend a fair amount of time on Planted Aquarium websites and don't see them mentioned often.

I don't use anything for plants. Api master kit works well for fish.
