Could this be a Crypt spathe...submersed??

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm hoping some of you Cryptocoryne experts can answer a question for me.

I was doing maintenance on my aquarium a few days ago when I noticed something that I've never seen before. A Cryptocoryne pontederiifolia has a growth on it that to me looks kind of like the spathes that I've seen in the pictures posted here of emersed Crypts. However, what is strange to me is that this plant has been _submersed_ ever since I planted it a year ago.

Attachment 10418 (http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/attachment.php?attachmentid=10418)

Attachment 10419 (http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/attachment.php?attachmentid=10419)

Unfortunately, clumsy me accidentally broke the top of it off while trimming. #-o

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Was recently browsing images.google and came across TomK's tank here (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/LxwbGLwlCa83naRR26gdUw). It's really the most beautiful shot of crypts I've seen:

Image: http://andrewl.brainstemprojects.com/archive/52656833.jpg

Most often the pictures I see of crypts are the plants placed individually in the substrate, looking thin, never lush like this. And that's when I'm able to find them not in an emersed setup! So, got any other great shots like above?

wendtii?

i'm starting a new low light tank and thinking of carpeting with crypt wendtii...but not sure which variety atm...thinking about mixing it up, but not really sure how the varieties match. obviously have seen pictures of each. i currently have green and red in seperate tanks...

anyway, just curious if anyone has pictures of them growing next to each other or can direct me to a tank picture of such.

so yeah, picture of the varieties growing, developed, mature, in the same tank.

thanks

A few months ago I found a small crypt floating around in one of my aquariums so I decided to put it into my emersed setup. After a few months of nothing happening it popped out a new leaf. This is the only time I've seen veining in any of my crypts, I'm guessing it's a Rosanervig which is known to do this and I have one in the tank. Hoping the veining doesn't dissapear but I'm guessing it won't last

HI All,

I have three of these plants growing in my 75 gl tank. Started with two and one new plant in the last 6 months.
It isn't doing as well as it should be. The new leaves that come out only grow until they're 5-6" tall and have no pink veining at all. I have had only two leaves per plant before the third comes in and then the oldest one will melt away. Anything I can do to make this plant look like it should? Here's my setup:

75 gallon tank
4 x 54 watt T5 with TeK reflectors
SMS substrate about 2 years old
EI water column dosing

My water is hard, GH18 KH11, would this be the reason? Everything else is doing great. Crypt balansae, wendetti, wendetti "green ghecko", downoi, HM, stargrass, anubias peteite all are growing great.

Any ideas?

I'm writing a research paper on Cryptocoryne wendtii for school. I'm looking for some pics of Crypt melting, preferably a Crypt wendtii melting. I need a nice crisp photo, doesn't need to be professional although I certainly won't turn it down. The finished product will only be turned in to my professor for a grade, nothing published. Credit will be given to the photographer/hobbiest. If you can photoshop your name on to the pic, that would be even better.

If you have any real nice pics of Crypt wendtii (not melting) in an aquascape, that would also be appreciated.

A jpeg image (or similar) is preferred. I'll provide my email address by pm. This paper is due next Friday, Oct 30. I would like to have any (or all) pics by Wednesday, Oct 28.

Thanks.

This is just the preview.

I recently bought a 20x10 seedling tray w/o holes and a humidity dome to cover it and keep the humidity high. I am using 3" net pots with inserted cocotek pot. For substrate, some are 100% AS Amazonia, parva has 50/50 sand and AS Amazonia, and the ones I got recently have 50/50 Compost and AS Amazonia. I'm using a 23w CFL for the lighting. Hopefully that's enough.

I have to thank Ghazanfar for helping me set-up my tray/dome and selling me awesome crypts! Gonna get more crypts from him later on :D

Flora
C. Elliptica
C. Parva
C. Beckettii "green"
C. Ciliata
C. Spiralis "cook"
A couple of other Crypts but they're only rhyzomes, so I'm not so sure what they are.
Glosso
Hydrocotyle sp.(not sure what)
Submersed Marsilea Crenata
Ludwigia Repens

I'm adding about 3 more species or so by the end of the week. My friend is going to give me a couple Crypts, but the highlight would be C. Cordata "Rosanervig" :D

Pics would be up tomorrow night!

I figured it's about time to share my addiction with APC. A while back, Crypt Fever hit me hard and I've never looked back.

Image: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/legomaniac89/P1060743.jpg?t=1256255840

The lighting is 3 60W 6700K compact flourescent bulbs (the twirly ones from Lowe's). For substrate, the common species are potted in a mix of spaghnum peat moss and Fertilome potting soil, and the blackwater species in Aquasoil.

C. wendtii x "Hybrid" - the one Lowcoaster used to sell
Image: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/legomaniac89/P1060744.jpg?t=1256256271

C. longicauda "Brown" - this melted down to nothing but came back strong
Image: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/legomaniac89/P1060745.jpg?t=1256256318

C. affinis (maybe?)
Image: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/legomaniac89/P1060746.jpg?t=1256256360

C. hudoroi - just look at that bullation!
Image: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/legomaniac89/P1060618.jpg?t=1255224201

I haven't got any spathes yet, but most of these have only been in here for a month or so, or just converted over from submersed growth.

The only non-Cryptocoryne plant in here is Limnophila sp. "Guinea Broadleaf", specifically because the Plantfinder says emersed growth hasn't succeeded yet. It's a weed for me! No flowers yet, but it grows like crazy.

So what do you think? Questions? Comments? Rude remarks? ;)
