Hello everyone. Been lurking for a while now, been doing a lot of research before I jump in to the deep end. I have fiddled around with plants on and off. Nothing too major. I tried my hand at DIY yeast but never kept up with it. Used it for about a month but never saw anything from it so stopped it. Probably have up too soon, dunno.

Currently have 3 tanks and 1 crab tank with mixed aquatic and terrestrial plants. I will get all the names of them when I get a chance. I know have java moss, amazon sword plant and 3 others I don't know the name of yet.

Well gotta go so are yall around soon. I plan on asking a ton of questions as I fell info from people who have personal experience is invaluable.

On August 27, 2005, I was proud owner of two heavily planted tanks in New Orleans. My personal situation was not the happiest but the tanks helped keep me happy. Two days later I was an evacuee in Mississippi, watching on TV as water poured into my neighborhood from the 17th St. Canal. It was over 5 weeks before I got home. Surprisingly my tanks were in prety good shape - in fact, the absence of light got rid of all the duckweed! But the stress of the disaster made everything go downhill, and in June 2006 I went to visit my sister in Alabama - only for awhile, I thought. But things changed, and I am now in Gadsden for keeps, with my tanks still in New Orleans. The last few years I have instead done my gardening above water, but now I am starting aquarium gardening again. I was given a 29 gallon and a 10 gallon this last weekend, gotta get all the equipment, and I will set them up as Dutch style tanks. I have another tank, a 25 gallon setup; I am not sure what to call the style, it is not actually a bowfront but instead has a flat area in front and two flanks that slant back - does that make sense? I think it will be relatively low tech. I am using local gravel in one tank, the grain size is about the size of BB pellets. Another tank will hold pool filter sand, with low pots that hold Eco-Complete for the plants.

Hello all,

My name is Anthony. I am a seasoned (18 yrs and counting) fish keeper/breeder. I keep 7 tanks. 3 large cichlid tanks, 1 reef, a feeder breeder (mollys), a clown knife juvie tank, and my newest project a 3 gallon planted hex.
On christmas of 2008 my wife got me a book, Nature Aquarium World book one, and since then I have read cover to cover about 6 times. Now I know this is not a very information filled book. Its kind of set up as a coffe table book. Anyway since I got that book I have stuck plants in gravel and have never messed with anything eccept a diy co2 system and some c/l lighting from when I upsized my reef. I have no experiance otherwise. I am addicted to fish and it is my whole life outside of my wife and kids. Well I guess that's why I'm here get used to me I am allways online. And feel free to shot me any questions about south and central american cichlids. I have kept all sorts of fish and as I said in the fauna part of the hobby I am very seasoned, but I am still learning just as all of you. Thank you for reading my intro.

Image: http://www.aquascapegallery.com/sites/default/files/garland_logo.gif

http://www.AquascapeGallery.com is a website that I created in my own time because I thought it was a good idea; an online gallery for the documentation and display of aquascapes where the users can vote on each aquascape so that they can be browsed and sorted by popularity. Something that it does that other websites do not is to give each user their own page located at a simple website address and viewable by non registered users. This makes it really easy for AG users to point people to their work. Each user also gets to create a personal blog.

The website has a simple, clean layout and 'slideshow' viewing effects which complement the display of art. Someone (whether registered or not) can visit the website, browse to a particular user, or list all aquascapes by popularity, then sit back and watch a slideshow of the images. I really like how it works and think its a great way for people who are new to aquascaping to get a good feel for what its all about. Each new aquascape that is uploaded will serve as a better advertisement for the hobby.

I have also organised a small aquascape competition as a bit of fun to celebrate the launch of the website.

Please add your aquascapes to the site, it will help its growth and promote the hobby in general.

I would appreciate any feedback, ideas or suggestions from APC members.

Best regards to everybody...

well I didn't know how to post it so I write here...

I started a new blog named aquaresources (http://aquaresources.blogspot.com/) that
can be useful for beginners, but that may also be useful to experts.

After collecting a few hundred links, useful to those who are interested in planted acquarium, I decided to share them by adding a few comments ...

I think that will publish one or two links per week because available time is not much. I hope my English will not be so bad...

For Italian speacking friends there is an italian version (http://acquarisorse.blogspot.com) .

So I want to start a nature aquarium and have a 45 tall (36" length x12" wide x24" tall") since I live on the coast, all fish stores only focus on marine setups. Looks like I'll have to use an online source. What web site companies do you prefer and I'm torn on the substrate. Should I go with eco-complete, aquariumplants.com substrate, or the all expensive ADA substrate? I also have a dual 96watt power compact bulb and a 10,000k blue light from a marine set up is this lighting ok for growing a carpet type look such as Hemianthus callitrichoides? I'm going for a south american planted look.

Thanks, in advance:confused:

Hello, Have a 38g lightly planted tank and will have a 20g Long tank cycling this weekend (plants will go in this tank eventually when I make it to the LFS). Also, planning on a 10g shell dweller tank in the near future.

Ethoxyquin
