I've never kept CrS before so I'm hoping to setup the perfect place for them.

My wter is city tap run through limestone. Ph comes out at 7.6-7.8 alkalinity is 5ppm-15ppm(or about 0.2 -0.8dkH so over time it drops like a bomb (tank tests at 6.4 ph)

the pH is from what I've read great for breeding CRS but I'm worried about pH swings - especially when adding much needed calcium/magnesium to tr shrimps water/diet. I do not plan on using c02.

It will be a shrimp/lowlight plant only tank. I haven't purchased anything for it thus far so it's a clean slate for gravel etc. I want a dark substrate -pref dark grey or black.
I'm having a hard time finding black onyx substrate, but not sure if I should use it. I can get Sms charcoal or turface locally(lesco/John Deere is nearby and has it in stock. Slightly concerned about these and shrimp however)

Any tips/advice here would be great.

In my 5 gal Snail take I have gotten quite a few little white worms crawling all over the substrate where I always put the snail food. I know they are from over feeding, but I want to over feed the snails! Would it be a good idea to take some out of that tank, where there are no fish and put them into one with fish. Would they 1) eat them and 2) be a good source of live foods for them?

I'm assumeing I dont see them in these numbers in any of my other tanks because they all have fish in them, and there for eat them...I just want some input.

I'm planing on using a piece of a sponge filter with a small hole cut into it to insert food to get the worms to go inside them puting the whole sponge into the other tanks...

got some free low tech plants and red cherry shrimp. i was going to throw them all in my 33 long tank. but then i didnt want them to get eaten. I bought a cheapo 10 gallon and got out my old hood and filter. i just threw everything together to get everything cycled so they didnt have to live in a tupperware for too much longer. they're so awesome, way better than sea monkeys! not really happy with the scape but then again i spent next to nothing to set up an impromptu shrimp tank. hopefully i can get a colony going with just this 5 i have, i think i lost the berried one i had during the transfer, unless its been hiding because i havent seen it :(

Hello,

I have what I believe to be Amano Shrimp. A female was gravid and the eggs hatched a day ago. I left the zoes in the hatching tank for a day with light airation and heater while I prepared a full salinity 33/34 ppm growing tank for the zoes. Until this morning many zoes died as I believe (maybe I m wrong) and I have now transfered the remaining zoes into the saltwater tank. Unfortunately I cannot see any of them gliding in the tank since the water is green. The really interesting thing is that the when I placed the female shrimp into her original tank which is shrimp only and planted, she kept some eggs which hatched into the main tank. Now I see zoes not gliding in the water BUT stuck on the glass moving about the tank using the tank's side glasses!!!! How can it be that in the main tank the zoes are stuck on the glass moving about and in the hatching tank the zoes were hanging upside down gliding in the water?????!!!!

Thanks

My parents are ticked off that i keep raising their electric bill with my other aquarium, but i got a 10 gallon that im gonna set it up. Well my dad said no heater on the ten gallon.

So is it okay if i keep red cherry shrimp in the 10 gallon with water temps at about 68-70ish. Will this affect breeding or no? I plan to keep moss, java fern, crypt and anubias. Also will the temps affect this to? Lighting will be 15w for all day like 12 hrs
