Hey everyone. I am just going to post a new thread with all the photos of my 2.5 gallon rimless aquarium throughout the past 11 months until just last night. I hope you enjoy the transformations. :D

Image: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e388/Rhamza/two%20and%20a%20half%20gallon/IMG_0060.jpg
At this stage I just brought it home from pets mart and took the rim off. also the eventual fixture for my light sitting on top.

update #3. it is 50 days old at January 26, 09. New Substrate!!! My first time using ADA Aquasoil! I was very happy.

Image: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e388/Rhamza/two%20and%20a%20half%20gallon/IMG_0336.jpg
fourth update slight plant changes 81 days old at February 19, 09.

A lot more growth. 100 days at march 10, 09.

Image: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e388/Rhamza/two%20and%20a%20half%20gallon/IMG_0193-1.jpg
July 30, 2009 150 days old. catastrophic problems after a month vacation. my dad didn't do any maintenance like I asked and let the moss over take the aquarium and kill everything else. I'm just glad I didn't have any fish or shrimp in the aquarium at the time.

and after much painstaking nursing of the plants, and buying a filter, and upgrading to pressurized CO2 this is what it looks like today.

I think that this is the first aquarium I have ever owned that actually has high light, CO2, and fertilizers all at the same time. I'm excited after 8 years of being in this hobby I have never taken the last step. I hope everything turns out Well!

Let me know what you think about the process and the bad layouts and one or two good ones.

Ok so I'm brand new posting on this forum. I have been reading a lot since I got a Takashi Amano book. And needless to say I have been to this forum to read several dozen times. So I will cut to the chase here. Here is the tank.

Image: http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss60/fishnvw/2009-11-09172620.jpg

Its a 3 gallon hex with a built in filter. I took out the carbon because I hear that best for keeping ferts and trace elements in your tank. So I have a sponge for filtering out detrius and a couple of bio balls and it has a biowheel as part of the system. I have a colormax 10 watt c/l bulb in the fixture and there's a built in reflector. The sand and plants that are in there are not staying they are from my sons community very very low tech tank. I put them there for the cycle and to tinker with scape ideas. On Friday I plan on taking the plunge into a real planted tank. Prior to this I have only stuck plants in gravel and said please live and crossed my fingers.

I'm going to tell you my plans and you tell me if it will work or not. If not please give suggestions. I want to be succesful here the first time and I'm sure I will make some mistakes as we all do. So for substrate I'm going to go with eco-complete or like. I am not doing co2 but plan on dosing excel on a daily basis. Here's my first question what is a good all in one liqued fert? I would prefer to not have to do 30 different ferts, this is my first planted tank and I don't want to feel overwhelmed. My other 6 tanks (including a reef) are a little work but I know I can do more just want to keep it simple for now. As for plants here is the list of what I would like to keep, let me know what you think. Anubias nana (petite), riccia fluitans (carpet style), java moss, dwarf hairgrass, and micro sword. Does anyone see anything that won't work here? I have read a few places that riccia does and does not do good with excel. But I figured I would try it and see how it does. So thank you ahead of time for any suggestions and comments.

Tank: ADA Mini-S

I'll be setting this up low-tech, I'm thinking a 13W Ott-Lite. Going to use a Red Sea Nano filter, and planning to use Aquasoil for the planted area in here and white sand for the rest of the tank. I'm thinking I should do a wood scape since my other tank is a rock scape.
As far as plants, I've got some Java Fern 'Windelov' on its way here, along with various other plants from my brothers tank. The plan is to work what I can into this tank. I don't plan to use much Aquasoil in here, so I may be able to just take it from my other tank and have this running over the weekend!
