I know its not O.K. to use Ion exchange softened water for aquarium use because of the sodium. But has anyone every used potassium in thier softners? I know potassium is a commonly used fert, but would that be to much potassium for a heavily planted tank??
Thanks.

Rex,
DO youy think to high of potassium levels would cause an algae bloom?? Should I try 1/2 city water, 1/2 "potassium softened" water at first?
I am currently on the front lines of hair algae battle as it is...I dont want to make things worse!
Thanks.

I have never seen evidence that high potassium levels cause algae problems. Algae seem to prefer nitrates or phosphates.
