i have this test kit and latly when i test my ammonia it shows up in hte green as .6-.8 mg/l according the back of the booklet then there is a chart thatsays after 1.2ppm refer to the chart any one know what those numbers mean they are all from .00-1.34 at the highest.

but mainly what i am asking is what is an acceptable level of ammonia i dont get why it show there being any in my water and i have gone and got other water form other places ( gas stations 2 in total) around the city and it shows up the same in all of them. i have never had ammonia befor 3 days ago never even seen a hint of it in any tests.

If tapwater around your city tests positive for ammonia, you're probably registering the ammonia in chloramine. Check with your water utility right away, because chloramine is highly toxic to fish. If your utility were switching to chloramine for the first time, there would have been a lot of advance publicity, however.

It is always good to bring the water sample into a store for them to test.

This would help determine if your kit is faulty or not.

btw, Are there any good LFS in Vancouver that carry quality exotic fish and lots of plants?

The 3 reagent ammonia tests are designed for both FW and SW. I find that particular test kit a PITA. Get the single reagent ammonia test kit. IMHO it's easier to use for FW.

Clear good.
Any yellow...got ammonia.
The "yellower" it is, the more ammonia present.
