Plantabbs by Aquaruim Products has been around forever...20 or 30 years at least. It is NPK fertilizer tablets.

Here is their current guaranteed analysis
11=15=20

11% total nitrogen
4.9% Ammoniacal Nitrogen
6.1% Nitrate Nitrogen
15% available phosphoric Acid (P205)
20% soluble potash

Nitrogen derived from Ammonium Phosphate and Potassium Nitrate

Phosphoric acid from Ammonium Phosphate

Potash from Potassium Nitrate
(so, its really just two chemicals)

So what do you think? Is this stuff good? It does not contain Urea or any of the bad stuff in garden NPK ferts like Jobes. Is this a cheap and easy way to provide NPK that we have been overlooking? (50 tablets for a couple bucks)

I am going to use these as a substrate fertilizer.

No urea, but it does contain ammonium as ammonium phosphate. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work as a substrate fertilizer. I expect that as with any other substrate fertilizer with ammonium or urea, you need to make sure that it doesn't get disturbed for a while after you put it in place.

Robert,

I had used these many times in the substrate before I realized that they were not intended to be used that way. Had no problems though and they did wonders for my lotus and java fern.

Robert.
