Default Dumb Question About Cories

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, BUT would cories do ok if the bottom of the tank is carpeted with HC? Or would they need substrate to shuffle in?

I don't think the cories would particularly be bothered whether the substrate is covered in HC or not. You might though as their rooting through it is likely to uproot some of it, especially after replanting. My cories root through areas covered the same as the sand areas and don't seem to mind either.

Ah cool cool. Very helpful! I was worried that my cories' barbels were getting damaged by my eco-complete. So I'm planning on covering most of it with hc and the rest in sand.

Ditto to what Ed said. It's actually better to add the Cory's after the HC is well rooted, rather than trying to add HC with Cory's already in the tank because of them nosing around and uprooting it, as Ed already said.

I agree with Ed and Jan. I am currently in the process of carpeting my tank with corys in it....damn what a headache. I gave up on the HC carpet and instead went with good ol' hairgrass. They kept uprooting the HC like Jan said they might. The grass is a little more difficult to uproot.

I had a large schools of cories in a tank carpeted with Elatine triandra. They stayed fat, healthy and happy.

It's very nice. One of my alltime favorites, and underappreciated. I know where to get nice, fat bunches if you're interested.
