Default Night moves

Does anyone know if Otos and Amano/tiger shrimp are mainly nocturnal? Since I changed from CF to MH fixture for my tank, I have noticed that shrimp hide whenever the light is on and the Oto's aren't don't forage as much. However, they really forage more up when the lights go off.

Since the MH is so bright I have cut back to 8h to 6h, and now to 5 h photoperiod. Hopefully the plants stay happy.

I don't have that much light and I've noticed my Oto's prefer to forage after the lights go out. During the day when the lights are on they still get around some, but mostly amongst the shade of the plants.

I hung the MH on the Solar arm about 11" (28 cm) from the water surface and its an "open" tank, so there is plenty of circulation. I don't believe its the heat but I will have to test the water temp at different levels in the tank this weekend to be certain.
