i get the best colors from my rainbows and gouramis with brine shrimp and flake food (omega one). in my experiance the more protein rich type products fed to the fish the more they are apt to breed. the more flake food is made from fish the better color. live foods help to.
also making sure the first couple of ingredients listed on the flake food are some type of meat for example my fish food starts with "whole salmon, halibut, seafood mix (including krill, rockfish, & shrimp), wheat flour, wheat gluten" ect..........
by law ingredients must be listed with the greatest quantity on top.
better quality foods start with better ingredients.
my feeding schedule is flake food in a.m. before lights on flake food in afternoon. brine shrimp every 3-4 days.
if im trying to get them to breed i increase the amount of times i feed just smaller amounts and more brine shrimp. my fish eat the flake food as fast and fierce as they do the shrimp. im sure they pref. the shrimp, but have no prob with flake.
