Default Cherry barbs bred...all females

I bred my cherry barbs 6 or 8 months ago. Had 46 fry --all girls!! I had pH 7.0, temp 80, plants in the tank but a screen over a bare floor for the eggs to fall through. It worked pretty well but...why were they all females? Any ideas?

There used to be a couple of trustworthy links online but I sure can't find them now. I have my 2 males and 4 of the females back in the breeding tank now. pH 6.8 and lowered the temp to 78. The tank now has gravel, so I've planted it fully. If anyone has bred them and knows what I need to change, please tell me! Thanks.

I am not familiar with breeding this species, but a lot of fish have highly skewed sex ratios if the temperature is high or too low. Sometimes the same can happen with pH but I think temperature is the more potent determinant. Curious to see what others think as well.

My guess would be temperature also. Try taking it down to the low 70s this time.

Most definately Tempurature is the causative factor in a same sex brood...

Thanks guys. No eggs this time so we'll have to wait to find the answer.
