i just got a beautiful valisneria called valisneria nana in dennerle water plants handbook - do u have more info about this plant? couldnt find anything in the whole web

Kasselmann says it's fairly undemanding, after a slightly longer acclimation period than other Val species.

If this is the plant I know as v. nana you will probably love it: link. It's the one with very thin leaves that go up to the surface. You can see the runners on the very front and to the right. They are very thick, thicker than the leaves themselves.

Here are some details:
After planting this plant has a "waiting period" of about 2 weeks. After that it spreads like a weed.

The plant can reach 3 or 4 feet in length so don't even think of using it in a small tank.

Some of the leaves get yellow and need to be removed. It is impossible to just pull them out - you need to cut them close to the root.

I thought that V. nana (aka V. gracilis) only reached 4-6". I guess it's just as well that I never won any, if they indeed reach such lengths... Also, does V. nana twist at all? In photos I've seen, they didn't appear to twist, and they looked more like Sags than Vals.

I got some of this plant from Ghanzanfar a while back. It spreads nicely after it gets established. I'm told it likes harder water. It seems to do well in my well water. ph 6.8 gh 12 kh 3. If anyone's interested in trying it out PM me and I'll see if I have any to spare at the moment.
