iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 5330 | Check your walmarts everyone! Hi everyone havent posted in a long time. I was at walmart today and passed by the fish section. ususally i just cringe and keep walking. today there were live plants for sale. and get this-they are good ones-plants youd never believe youd see at walmart. sometimes they have amazon swords and thats it.
today there was- bacopa carolina, cabomba green, moneywort, red rubin swords. some ludwigia sp. and get this NESEA sp red! unbelieveable! i am sure it is the real one too because i have some already in my tank. i bought the two bunches they had. all the plants are like 4.25 and come in bunches in this small clay pot that weighs them down. i dont know who is supplying/growing these for walmart-may be local but idk. check it out you might be surprised! |

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 13300 | I try not to buy anything from walmart...people keep buying, they keep stocking. PETA is getting involved, the condition they keep their fish in is unconscionable. I cringe when passing too, but visit PETA's website. There are a list of Walmart people that you can write to about the fish conditions. |

Plant Points: 1500 | Eh, there are far better organizations out there than PETA. They are just a bunch of hypocrites. But thats just my opinion based on the facts... |

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 13300 | Yeah, I saw an interesting story about them on the news last night. Just saw the highlight so I can't comment on the content.
What are some organizations you know of for those of us that are interested? |

Plant Points: 7900 | What are the bad conditions at Walmart? At our local walmart, overstocking maybe.. Water quality? Hell no. I got some Kuhli Loaches from Walmart, none of my LFSes were stocking them, and when I checked the water, it was as good as my tank water. I've also purchased from 3 of the 4 LFSes and all three had horribly high nitrate, 160ppm+. None of them, walmart included, showed ammonia or nitrites.
Jon
I never thought much about PETA before, but after watching Penn and Tellers Bullsh*t! episode about them, I think even less. |

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 54980 | Think the something to consider with big businesses like walmart with fish is that they vary a lot. Heck, even overall, some walmarts are just plain nicer/cleaner than others. A lot of them do suck, but then some do a decent job. |

Plant Points: 60560 | I'd say that PETA is the last source to quote on a site like this.
If they had their way, there would be significant restrictions placed on the keeping of animals by private (non-governmental) parties. That would include fish.
Informed individuals should look closely at any piece of legislation that they sponsor, and take approppriate action if needed.
I don't think they care about pet plants, though. Yet.

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: 19290 | I love how this topic all of a sudden turned into PETA this and PETA that.
Doug737 was just letting us know that his Walmart actually had decent plants besides the usual Amazon swords. |
