Could someone give me the procedure for re-charging Purigen? I threw away the directions. Thanks.

1.Soak in one part bleach and one part water for 24 hours(I use I cup water and 1 cup bleach).

2.Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 2 Tablespoons ChlorGuard, Prime, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. ***I use 1 cup water and 1 Tablespoon Prime. Rinse well after 8 hours.

3. Soak for 4 hours with a solution containing 1 tablespoon per cup of water(Discuss Buffer, Neutral Regulator, or Acid Buffer). ***I use 1 cup of water and 1 Tablespoon of Seachem Neutral Regulator.

Although, not mentioned in the original instructions, I rinse extra well after the final step before reusing the Purigen.

Regards.

I have a question, can the purigen be left out to dry after recharge and be used again?

I'm not sure if letting it dry out causes it to not be useful anymore but I left one out to dry after recharging it and it began to stink SO BAD, I mean really bad. I threw it away without putting it back in the tank. Next time, I'll be sure to put it back in before it dries out.

I've always kept my purigen wet after a recharge without any problems. It never occured to me to try and dry it out, I would think that after bleach treatment and proper de-chlorination the purigen wouldn't stink too badly, but I've never tried so I wouldn't know.

I have two bags that I use. One in the filter and the other ready to go.

I keep my spare in RO/DI water and it does just fine. I've always read that it has to stay wet?

Bamboozler: You should post this question in the Seachem forum and we could all get a definitive answer.

For those who re-charge this stuff, make sure you follow their procedure. I'm not sure if 1:1 is the correct ratio for bleach and water, but that's what I used. I rinsed and soaked the filter for 8 hours, then rinsed many times before I put it back in. Three of my fish were floating about 8 hours later!

you probably didn't use enough dechlorinator or let it soak long enough or you could have not rinsed it well enough. i've done what you did also with no problems.
