Re: amount of CO in the water If you don't inject CO2 into the water, either using DIY CO2 (yeast/sugar/water bottles) or using pressurized CO2, you will have the amount of CO2 in your water that is in equilibrium with the normally occurring CO2 in the air. That could be from less than one part per million to as much as 5 ppm. Anything that ripples the water surface will tend to stabilize that CO2 amount, so an air stone is beneficial, not detrimental.
If you are using DIY CO2, then you shouldn't use an air stone during the day, when the plants need the CO2, because that same surface ripple makes it easy for CO2 to escape from the water. |
