Default Max Length with T5HO

Hello All

I am planning a 100 gal planted tank with hanging light hood 4HOTH (54W) of 4 ft Length.

My tank dimensions were planned to be 52 in X 21 in X 21in.

Can I increase my tank length to 54 inch (the lights being 48 inch long) ?

Will the light at the tank ends be sufficient for good plant growth or shall I stick to 52 in ?

Appreciate your response.

Thanks

AME

Hi AME

My experience with T5HO is that it is so "powerful" that three inches on each side not directly under the light should be ok. If you have stem plants though, they will certainly grow toward the lamp which won't look so nice depending on what you want to do.

Also, my tank is 24 inches deep (say 22 with the substrate) and even small red plants stay red and grow well at the bottom of the tank (sorry, can't remember the plant's name). So with your dimensions, I figure that some of your side plants will still be closer to the light than mines.

Dear Bart

Thanks for sharing your experience.

There must be some rule and /or calculations for this as we have for depth and light propagation.

Dont know where to find it

Regards.
