I am new to planted aquariums, and I was looking for a reasonably priced lighting system for my 55 gallon aquarium. I will not be using CO2, so nothing super high tech.

I was searching some of the fixtures on amazon, and based on all the reviews it seems everything there is a piece of junk. Does anyone have anything they can recommend for me that will give me enough light to grow some decent plants?

I have had great experiences with Current USA products.

I can tell you from experience, the 2 x T5HO 54w bulb fixtures are great for low light tanks, if you hang the fixture about 10" from the top of the tank.

Here is a photo of a 2 bulb Current USA fixture hanging over a 75G tank.
This is a low light tank. I could probably raise the fixture another inch or two. I have some algae, but it is mostly left over from when I was adjusting the fixture height. The tank could probably use a good cleaning.
