Plant Points: | hello from Boston Hi everyone, I was just surfing the net, looking for ideas for the 29 gal. which I will soon be getting. I would like this to be a planted aquarium, but I'm intimidated by everything involved with providing proper nutrients, and especially with using Co2. I also have a 10 gal established tank, and a 5 gal cycling. I would like to plant these tanks as well. I will have a million questions, and was hoping that everyone here could help make the process a fun learning experience. I have briefly looked around and this site looks very comprehensive. I can't wait to look at the forum in greater detail!
Talk to you soon

I would suggest starting out with a low light/low tech tank, which means less mantenance, little ferts, no injected C02 and less room for errors. I would also advise to take a look at our El-natural forum. |

Welcome I know it all seems very confussing and complicated at first, but its very easy really. You'll find all you need to know here at APC and tons of knowledgable people to answer your questions. Also, there are several people in the Boston area who are very experienced aquatic gardners and Uncle Ned's Fish Factory is willing to help out the planted side of the hobby. Do check out NEAPS also, you can find info about us by clicking the photo in my signature. |

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: | Welcome. I am not to far away (1.5hrs). I try to get down for a Sox game a couple times a year. Nice city. I will definatly be looking into Uncle Ned's Fish Factory now.
Have you checked out any meetings at the Boston Aquarium Society?

iTrader Positive Rating: 100% Plant Points: | Hi Chris! I'm pretty new to the planted thing as well. I've been doing lives for a while, but actual "scaping" is new and very confusing, but this place is definitely a wealth of great info, and the members are top notch for helping us newbs.
Where in Boston are you? Seems I've lived all over, but my few years in Boston were great. I lived above the Longwood Galleria (corner of Longwood and Brookline) and worked at Boston Childrens and the Brigham. Great town!
Best of luck in your planting ventures!

Plant Points: | Well, I am actually about 25 minutes north of Boston, I live in Lynn, (I hear the poetic wisecracks already ), I have never been to a Boston Aquarium Society meeting, but it sounds like it would be alot of fun, I think I saw an events section in this forum, right? It would be cool if we could meet up sometime. Where is Uncle Ned's fish factory? I'll have to check that out online, they must have a site. It would be nice to visit a LFS/plant store, other than the one I usually go to for supplies, I would never buy plants there, they are always covered with a heavy layer of pet hair and lint, the plants foliage is riddled with brown spots and holes, but PJ's pet center in Saugus seems to have a nice selection of plants and they are kept in nice, clean water. I think this is probably where I will buy my first plants. Unless buying online is recommended?
kaj41354, my husband's relatives are from the Lancaster area, Port Carbon, I think, we hope to visit there in the near future, beautiful city, from what I've been told. |
