Plant Points: 1450 | Hi everyone! Hey I'm new here, my name is Sonia and I'm from canada ^.^. I own two freshwater planted tanks (10gal & 15 gal) My 15 gal tank has been set up for about a year now, so yeah I'm still not an expert but I'm sure I'll learn a lot from being here! Right now I'm waiting for some plants from Aquaticmagic including star moss...now I've made some research and I found that they weren't submersible, that it grows on concrete and that most people found that it died after about 3 months in an aquarium...so I asked Aquaticmagic about it and this is what they replied:
"You have done the right search, but we have been more successful with Star Moss. Many of our customer thought world has been buying and planting it in there aquarium with 100% success.
High Co2, high light, weekly water changes. Star moss is actually called "Concrete Moss". It grows submerged on concrete. Apparently it likes high alkalinity, maybe the rocks that the moss is on makes it happy."
Now I'm only confused...did the moss die only because it wasn't submerged on concrete? Did anyone try to make it grow and succeeded? |

First of all, welcome to APC! We are glad you found us. There is lots of great information here, and friendly people to help if you need it.
As for Aquatic Magic, if you do a search on this site you will find information regarding the company and the dangers of ordering plants from any company overseas. I personally have ordered "dry goods" (drop checkers) from them without a problem but I would not purchase plants from them. |

I know its kinda risky to order plants, especially overseas, but I couldn't find one that delivered to canada (almost all those I found delivered to the US only x.x), the ones who did always seemed to be for companies that buy a bunch of plants. I guess I'll see if it was worth it in about a week when I receive the plants :S! |

Plant points are something you earn every time you log in or post. They are used with the pets like my unicorn below my name (to feed them, etc). The pets aren't available at the moment, but there is talk of making them available to members again. |

I'm not sure you will have any luck with the star moss. There have been several discussions about this moss here and most conclude that it will not grow submerged for them. I think those few that have had success are the exception that proves the rule.
Hope you let us know how your tanks progress. |

Hope you let us know how your tanks progress. | Thanks everyone! I will surely let you know what happens with all this, while I wait for the moss I'll look for people who succeeded with star moss like hydrophyte : http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/f...m-journal.html

I put everything in my 10 gal along with my japanese moss ball, java moss, neon tetras, cherry and green shrimps. |
