Ok, let me give you a quick rundown of what all I have.
I have a 10gal in the living room that houses some guppies that I have selectively bread till about 3 months ago. They have yellow spotted heads with black/dark dark blue from the front fins to the tails. I think they are neat. There is a 5 inch pleco that will be moved soon as he is getting too big for the tank. I have had him in there since he was a tiny tiny little boy. Also have a male kribensis in there. I had him in another tank with my female but for some reason soon after they bread they weren’t compatible and always attacked and chased each other. They did mate one time but soon after the fry passed they attacked each other and I had to remove one or I feared they would kill each other. I have it set up with 2 HOB filters so for the amount of fish it is way over filtered. I have 2 Hygrophila difformis which I just added in small pots with peat moss pellets,,, hope that works out. I also have an Amazon sword plat that is now floating because every time I plant it the pleco uproots it. I am thinking if the pot idea works out well then I am going to do the same for it so he can’t uproot it. Since it has been floating and so close to the lights it has produced many offshoots that I have managed to harvest from it so that I guess is one good thing about it being floating.
The next is a 10gal in the bedroom that I have turned into a crab tank. I have created a waterfall out of styro and drylok which is ok,,, but I jacked up the tank. I have a pond section in the tank that has 2 Hygrophila difformis plants, 2 of the harvested Amazon swords, a Ludwigia something,, not sure the exact one, perhaps I can get someone to id it for me. On the land section I have dwarf hairgrass, mondo grass in the back, and a fern that I found out back of the house. The first fern lived and is growing a new stem now, the second one I planted is just about dead I think. The crabs love their new tank. I have to redo the waterfall however as it does not work the way I want because I did not put an adequate filter around the pump so it is clogged with sphagnum moss,,, sigh. I was thinking about it being a problem when I designed it but for whatever reason I didn’t do anything about it.
The next tank is a 7 gal betta tank. This has proven to be my best planted tank to date,,, but has had some serious neglect in the past. I originally had it as one of my fry grow out for my guppies. I also used it as a snail nursery to grow live snacks for my figure eight puffers. As a result of super high light and at the time no plants algae took over the tank. I can’t even remember the last time I did a gravel vacuum so when you look at it there is a ton of crud in the gravel. Only reason it got so bad is that I took out all of the guppies and just fed the snails, didn’t care about the algae because it was food for the snails. I cleaned the sides of the tank, got rid of all the algae (no light for a week and scrubbed the sides of the tank), planted some plants and put in betas for my daughter in her room. The Hygrophila difformis has taken over the tank since it is so bushy from the constant pruning and clippings I have been taking from it to put in my other tanks. Even though the gravel looks so crappy all the water tests are 100% perfect and I haven’t had an issue with algae until just recently when my daughter put in about half a bottle of fish food to feed her fish. Got almost all of it out and increased my water changes enough to not upset the tank too much. Inside I also have one of the harvested Amazon swords and the Ludwigia something.
Next one is a 29 gal that is a work in progress. I am in the process of working on a background for it,, if I can find the time. It has a ton of java moss, some kind of fern,, or what was labeled as a fern. I will upload a pic of it so I can get some help id’ing it. I also have another plant that I have no idea what it is. I just recently split it up as it had 2 offshoots growing. I have a stem of the Ludwigia something, 3 Hygrophila difformis stems that I just put in there. This tank originally had DIY co2 which I didn’t keep up with. I am hoping to soon do the background, do a DIY filter and sump and start co2 again. I have 2 zebra danios (had more but they perished from kribensis attacks and figure eight assassin attacks) a female kribensis, a figure eight puffer (had 2 and they would stalk my other fish at night and assassinate them in their sleep. One of them died because he kept trying to eat my krib fry and they attacked him while I was out of town and killed him

I have a pleco that I call the swamp thing. He only comes out at night and instead of getting longer and bigger like all the other plecos I have had in the past,,, he is getting fatter. He almost reminds me of Jabba the Hutt lol. I also have 2 kuhli loaches.
I also have a 55gal set up in the living room that will soon by a paludarium after I repair one of the panes of glass and get the background set up.
So that’s it. Like I mentioned earlier I am pretty new to planted tanks. All I have really had in the past were some cheap little stem plants that I really didn’t care for and never really paid much attention to. The reason that I don’t know the exact plants that I have is because most of them I got from a friend who got them from a friend who got them from a friend and so on. I have tried to id what I can but I am unsure of what I am supposed to look at between the different varieties of plants and so on.
Since I am really getting interested in planted tanks and the different types I have been looking around the local lakes/ponds/streams for potential future plants in my tanks. I think I have found something in the Cabomba group at the local walk park right down the house from me. I am going to post pictures of all of my stuff when I get back to my house, would do it now but I am spending the weekend at my parent’s house.
Anyway, I found that I am addicted to my planted tanks and I find myself spending more and more time at this site. I hope to soon really know more about the hobby so that I will be able to help others new to it like myself. I also want to say that I appreciate all of you and the help that you give others. Communities like this is what makes the hobby so enjoyable as there is always something to learn and it really helps that there are those out there willing to lend a hand to noobs like myself.
