Why don't you start out with red cherry shrimp first?
I personally have Taiwan fire reds which are inbred RCS.
They are very tough and prolific.
I have mine in a 24 gallon and a 10 gallon with aquaclear filters. I put a sponge on the filter intake so the baby shrimp aren't sucked in.
I feed boiled spinach and crab food. They are a lot of fun to watch "grazing" all day.
