Default Restoring Metaframe 30G

I was recently reminded about one of the fish tanks that we had when I was little. I found it in the barn at my mother's place where it had been sitting for 30 some years. I believe it to be about the same size as a modern Aqueon 30G

There was also a 10 Gallon, which has one cracked panel. The glass on this all looks sound, but I don't know about the seems.

Here's a view inside, with some other old aquarium stuff, bird droppings and lots of dust.

It even came with plants.

might want to mark the panels before you take them out. they normally only go in 1 way.

Cool tank! Kimcadmus has restored one of these. She has a thread about it.

i know that i have seen some old threads with descriptions of these. i need to go back and research. i hope that this one won't require disassembly. i hope that i can just clean seems from the inside, then re-seal.

the 10G will be another matter, since it has busted glass. here is a picture of that one.

that one has a real nice hood.

i was so lucky to acquire these!

Your tanks will be so cool when you get them all cleaned up and redone!

thanks!

i have what seems like a pretty good idea for the 30G--combining it with a retro (50's-ish) fishing theme. i might even try to put it into a public space and combine with a water quality message.

...but i have too many aquarium projects already!

trying to reseal the tank with out taking it apart is asking for a leak.

Paint thinner on a rag, does wonders for softing old silcone. makes it much easier to remove.

I love those old tanks. I have a couple up and running with original hoods as well. Good luck getting it up and running. They are stunning when bubbling once again.
